Com cada any l’edició de l’street art de Ciutadella de Menorca ha estat un èxit de participació d’artistes i d’acollida per part del públic. Però a quin cost? Segons l’organització diuen que “estan molt satisfets d’haver arribat tan lluny amb tan poc pressupost”… Així doncs, el cost l’assumeix l’artista que, com a treballador/a, no veu remunerada la seva feina.
Les i els artistes formem part d’un col·lectiu que fa anys sofreix una precarietat especialment accentuada. Les institucions i organitzacions ens demanen els nostres serveis però quasi mai ens paguen per aquests. Tant l’ajuntament de Ciutadella com l’associació de comerciants s’han negat, des de fa anys, a pagar a les i als artistes per la seva feina dins el marc del festival d’Street Art. Així mateix, també creim que ara que els diners de l’organització, que per primer any els posa l’ajuntament, s’hauria de fer una convocatòria pública per tal de democratitzar la selecció d’artistes.
Quan les i els artistes visuals intervenen sobre els murs del casc antic de Ciutadella generen un contingut cultural d’interès pel ciutadà. Nosaltres, som aquells qui generem aquest contingut cultural i, alhora, també generem beneficis econòmics, ja que l’afluència de visitants s’intensifica. Però, així i tot, se segueix demanant que faguem la feina de franc.
Nosaltres procurem generar discursos que acullin la sensibilitat, la bellesa, la reflexió o la crítica social. El nostre capital és social, però també som ciutadans amb els mateixos drets i deures i, volem, com és normal, poder pagar el nostre sustent, les nostres factures, els nostres lloguers, etc.

Según la organización dicen que “están muy satisfechos de haber llegado tan lejos con tan poco presupuesto”… Así pues, el coste lo asume el artista que, como trabajador/a, no ve remunerado su trabajo.
Las y los artistas formamos parte de un colectivo que hace años sufre una precariedad especialmente acentuada. Las instituciones y organizaciones nos piden nuestros servicios pero casi nunca nos pagan por estos. Tanto el ayuntamiento de Ciutadella como la asociación de comerciantes se han negado, desde hace años, a pagar a las y a los artistas por su trabajo dentro del marco del festival de Street Art. Así mismo, también creemos que ahora que el dinero de la organización, que por primer año los cede el ayuntamiento, se tendría que hacer una convocatoria pública para democratizar la selección de artistas.
Cuando las y los artistas visuales intervienen sobre los muros del casco antiguo de Ciutadella generan un contenido cultural de interés para el ciudadano. Nosotros, somos aquellos quien generamos este contenido cultural y, a la vez, generamos beneficios económicos, puesto que la afluencia de visitantes se intensifica. Pero, aun así, se sigue pidiendo que hagamos el trabajo de manera gratuita.
Nosotros procuramos generar discursos que acojan la sensibilidad, la belleza, la reflexión o la crítica social. Nuestro capital es social, pero también somos ciudadanos con los mismos derechos y deberes y, queremos, como es normal, poder pagar nuestra comida, nuestras facturas, nuestros alquileres, etc.

As every year, the edition of the Festival Street Art of Ciutadella de Menorca has been a success in terms of the participation of artists and the reception of the public. But at what cost? According to the organisation, they say that «they are very satisfied to have come so far on such a small budget»… So the cost is borne by the artist who, as a worker, is not paid for his work.
We artists are part of a group that has been suffering from a particularly precarious situation for years. Institutions and organizations ask us for our services but we are almost never paid for them. Both Ciutadella City Council and the shopkeepers’ association have refused, for years, to pay the artists for their work within the framework of the Street Art festival. We also believe that now that the money from the organisation, which for the first year is given by the City Council, a public call should be made to democratise the selection of artists.
When visual artists intervene on the walls of the old town of Ciutadella they generate cultural content of interest to the citizen. We are the ones who generate this cultural content and, at the same time, we generate economic benefits, since the influx of visitors is intensified. But, even so, we are still asked to do the work for free.
We try to generate discourses that embrace sensitivity, beauty, reflection or social criticism. Our capital is social, but we are also citizens with the same rights and duties and, as is normal, we want to be able to pay for our food, our bills, our rent, etc.
